Vickroy Commons Plaza
UpStudio Landscapes is working closely with the Duquesne University’s Facilities Management Department to create a new plaza and seating area in the University’s urban campus in Pittsburgh, Pa. The central commons area between Vickroy Hall and Duquesne Towers is designed to serve as a key campus open space, serving the adjacent residence halls. The open space provides flexible and fixed seating options, louvered structures for shade/weather, wi-fi and charging stations and a fire pit for social gathering.
The new plaza is bisected by a central pedestrian pathway which also serves as an accessible route, connecting the central green space of Assumption Commons to the Academic Walk. Additionally, the commons area redefines connections to the Duquesne Towers residence hall and provides a new ADA accessible route and alternate steps that integrate with the existing topography. The seating area provides student amenities in a densely populated residential campus core while improving ADA access and connecting to overall campus pedestrian routes.
